About

Hi, my name is Sirinya, but my friend Hutch calls me “Sirinyay”.

I live in Santa Monica, a beautiful beach city where no one lives more than two blocks from a bus stop, with my husband Juan.

I was born and raised in Los Angeles near the Beverly/Vermont red line subway station, in a neighborhood that is only starting to gentrify. However, my soul and accent are from the San Fernando Valley, where my parents bought a house when I turned 14.

I’ve been blessed. For the fifth grade, I won a slot at a highly coveted LAUSD magnet school in Laurel Canyon, which tracked me (essentially) toward my eventual matriculation at Smith College in Northampton, MA; Pomona College in Claremont, CA (attended as an exchange student); and UCLA, where I earned my MA in urban planning. The prospect of working The System to get my future kids an equally stellar education is so daunting that I can’t imagine staying in Los Angeles.

I’m into sustainable cities and transportation, economic development opportunities for Thai immigrants, and educational access and equity in a big way.
