After Helen Rosner (Smith ‘04, editor of Saveur.com) announced on Facebook that she had set a recurring gift to Planned Parenthood, I made a gift to them too.

Nearly 10 years ago, I went to Planned Parenthood of Santa Monica to get the morning-after pill. It was during my summer break from Smith, and I wasn’t sure if I was covered for doctor’s visits outside of Smith’s health services office. They were friendly and made me feel safe.

And I am damn proud to support an organization that not only supports a woman’s right to choose, but also provides them with safe ways to end their pregnancies.

When I was a teenager, I knew this one guy who was sleeping around - who also refused to wear a condom. His quip was that women could just abort their fetuses if they got pregnant. Luckily, we were in America, where women could access less draconian forms of birth control.
